With renewable energy deployment progressing fast in power generation, the heating and cooling sector still has some way to go to reduce the remaining 84% of EU heating still generated by fossil fuels. A new policy approach to increase the share of renewables in heating and cooling beyond the current 18.6% is required. Solutions are available, but not sufficiently exploited to allow all European citizens to access clean energy. EUR...

System packages, e.g. a boiler being installed with thermostats, will also come with an energy efficiency rating from A+++ to G, calculated by the installer. In this video, we will guide you through the process of calculating your own energy rating and producing a system label. It's simple to do and only takes a few minutes. New investments are insufficient to bridge the gap. It raises several questions about the future of capacity mechanisms in the EU - how should they be designed not only to ensure security of supply whilst preserving competition in the Single Market, but also to support market reforms, RES integrations, promotion of demand response.  More than a year after the publication of the Clean Energy Package by the Commission, EURACTIV hosted a forum to discuss the state-of-play and future of the power industry in the EU. Questions included:  - What is the way forward for the Clean Energy Package? - What should be the focus of upcoming EU Presidencies regarding the Package? - Can European power markets exist without capacity mechanisms? How they should be designed?

The European Commission’s long-awaited “Clean Energy for all Europeans” package of legislation was presented at the end of last year and is now being discussed in the European Parliament and Council for later approval. Based on the EU’s commitment to cut CO2 emissions by 2030, the package also aims, amongst others, at accelerating renewable energy innovation. EURACTIV organised a high-level event to discuss the EU’s approach towards renewable heating and cooling. Questions included: - What European level actions can be taken to correct the bias of the heat market towards fossil fuels, and against renewables? - What is the role of the consumers in the adoption of the renewable heating and cooling solutions? - What policies and concrete measures are needed by the EU institutions and member states? - What role for local authorities in decarbonising the H&C sector?

Active from the 26th September 2015, ErP affects the way that product manufacturers, suppliers and installers display and recommend heating systems to customers. A heat source, such as a boiler or heat pump, will now come with a product energy efficiency rating from A++ to G. System packages, e.g. a boiler being installed with thermostats, will also come with an energy efficiency rating from A+++ to G, calculated by the installer. In this video, we will guide you through the process of calculating your own energy rating and producing a system label. It's simple to do and only takes a few minutes. We have used a standard combi boiler and thermostat system in our example.
